Our Medical Weight Loss Program

Arvada West Family Medicine Clinic is now offering injections to help you meet your weight loss goals! The two most popular weight loss drugs on the market today are Semaglutide and Tirzepatide. If you are struggling to lose weight through conventional methods, then one of these treatments may be right for you.

Weekly, Fast Injections

Decreases Appetite & Food Cravings

Increases Portion Control Management

Both of these medications have been approved by the FDA and are well-known for stimulating weight loss in people who struggle to maintain a healthy weight.

Effective Weight Loss Injections

Following are details about injections. What is the difference between them? Which one is better for weight management?

Semaglutide

Semaglutide, a GLP-1 agonist, (same ingredient as Wegovy & Ozempic) is an FDA-approved medication for weight loss that works by increasing your bodies insulin release (and glucagon released) and delaying gastric emptying. This process effectively reduces appetite and food cravings and increases portion control management.

Semaglutide also supports improved heart health and blood pressure when used in combination with diet and exercise.

Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor substance that regulates blood sugar levels and stimulates weight loss, making it a life-changing treatment for those diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Tirzepatide works by controlling blood sugar and slowing down digestion; this causes the user to feel full faster.

A popular Tirzepatide on the market is Mounjaro or Zepbound.

Other Medications At Our Clinic

Contrave

This is a combination medication of bupropion and naltrexone. Contrave can help with decreasing appetite and works in the reward center of the brain to help control food cravings.

Phentermine

The most prescribed anti-obesity medication. It is a stimulant medication that suppresses appetite and may have other metabolic effects. This weight loss medication can also help with food cravings and calorie intake.

Qysmia

A combination medication of Topiramate and Phentermine. Qysmia can help decrease appetite and food cravings. It may also change the taste of some foods sometimes requiring adjustments in meal planning but also making it easier to comply with dietary changes.

Questions & Answers

Studies indicate that Tirzepatide may indeed be a more effective medication for weight loss when compared to Semaglutide, due to its dual action mechanism. The evidence from clinical trials showing greater reductions in body weight and BMI further supports this potential superiority of Tirzepatide in promoting weight loss. Further research and larger-scale studies may provide additional insight into the comparative efficacy of these two medications for weight management.

Although Tirzepatide may have a higher price point compared to Semaglutide, studies suggest that Tirzepatide may offer better value for money or cost-effectiveness due to its potentially greater weight loss effects at equivalent doses.

The main differences are:

  • Tirzepatide is a dual GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist while Semaglutide only targets the GLP-1 receptor

  • Tirzepatide appears to be more potent for weight loss

  • Tirzepatide is more expensive

  • Semaglutide has an oral formulation in addition to injections
  • Tirzepatide appears to be better tolerated with fewer side effects like nausea or constipation
